This multi-stakeholder, trans-disciplinary,
cross-sectoral workshop, organized by the Energy
Service of the Canton of Geneva, aims at
- Exploring the most current research
available in the field of energy use and energy efficiency
in ICT-equipment, from the EU and the US
- Presenting and discussing Europe's most
progressive public-sector and governmental energy policy
- Addressing technology choices, whole-system design, system
integration, measures and business strategies to
foster energy efficiency in ICT-equipment and in data centers
- Providing participants with a sounding board for discussion
and exchange of viewpoints, on issues such as energy policy,
dissemination of information and collaboration at the local, national,
or supra-national level
by bringing together manufacturers of computing equipment and components,
developers and designers of data centers, their customers, regulatory
bodies and related industries.
It will offer participants a unique opportunity to pool
experiences in their respective fields, to better understand
the constraints and objectives they are facing in the ICT market
and to become sensitized to the issue of energy consumption from
a sustainable development prospective.
It will also be a platform to present and discuss
- Case studies on energy use and
efficiency in computer and telecommunication centers;
- The outcome of the Geneva
study on energy efficiency in data centers [pdf],
which includes recommendations on the implementation of the accord
between data center operators, the Canton of Geneva and NGO's
into the administrative and legal framework of the Canton.
- Results of practice and research activities
in the field of energy use and energy efficiency in ICT-equipment,
e.g. power supplies, power management of servers, UPS-labeling,
purchasing/procurement
- Design Recommendations for Low-Power Data Centres resulting
from the RMI
Charette
