VolunteersA total of 1,000 volunteers are working to welcome UEFA’s EURO 2008TM in Geneva. 500 of them are with EUFA and 500 others are supporting the organisation of the event with the State of Geneva.
Each volunteer has different objectives. Some are looking to achieve job experience or to take part in a unique event in Switzerland. Others want to meet the thousands of visitors and leave with them a positive image of Geneva. The only constant factor is that they want to give of their best for their canton and honour its tradition of welcoming visitors.
The fact that many associations are run solely by volunteers attests to the excellent capacity of the people of Geneva from all walks of life to mobilise their forces.
Volunteers from the State of Geneva will mainly take on the tasks of information, reception and logistics. They will have to guide and inform the visitors, but also welcome them to Geneva. With the exception of match days, the positions offered to volunteers will be principally situated in the Fan Zone of la Plaine de Plainpalais and in the Fan Village of Bout-du-Monde.
In order to carry out the job, each volunteer will be completely equipped (shoes, trousers, T-shirt, sweater, jacket, cap, bag), meals, free public transport, a present, the entry to several evening events, but also a training and a certificate attesting to his or her engagement.
A good framework for the volunteers is essential for success. The Geneva State authorities have done everything to make sure that the volunteers are well received and that they realise how much their engagement is appreciated. Geneva is pleased and proud to be able to count on their participation and to work with them on the occasion of this great festival of football. Enjoy Geneva!
During the event, the volunteers will help those responsible for other projects such as activities, information, the welcoming of fans or journalists. Leaders of the volunteer teams will be at their disposal to manage the logistical and organisational aspects.
On the ground, in case of problems, the rule is to refer to the team leader.
