1 August in your district

Between street arts, music, performances and an official ceremony, this year’s 1 August festivities will take place at 8 sites around the city. It is an original means of commemorating this key day for the people while complying with health recommendations.

In order to commemorate this key day for the people while complying with health recommendations, the City of Geneva is organising an original event in 2020.

The festivities will be spread across 8 different sites, serving up a selection of street arts, music and performances, as well as an official ceremony attended by the Mayor, Mr Sami Kanaan, the President of the municipal Council, Ms Albane Schlechten, and guest of honour Ms Patricia Borrero, Vice President of the Geneva branch of the Swiss Association of Nurses.

  • 8 p.m. (doors open at 7.30 p.m.) | Official ceremony (speech, national anthem and reading of the pact accompanied by the Municipal Music Ensemble of the City of Geneva. Open to all, also presented in sign language)

All sites are accessible by public transport: more information on the TPG website

Food and drink

  • There will be no food stand or truck on site. The restaurants, cafés and refreshments stands near each site will be open.
  • In warm weather, remember to drink plenty of water: drinking fountains will be available at each site.

Hygiene and behavioural rules

Masks

Spectators over the age of 12 will be required to wear a mask within the marked areas around the different stages.

Hydro-alcoholic gel and disinfectant will be provided at each site.
