The Book Fair in the City

From 28 October to 1 November 2020, discover the latest news from the autumn literary season... at the very heart of the city!

This autumn, to celebrate the new literary season, the authors will meet the public in emblematic locations around Geneva – an original means of enabling readers to discover literature at first hand.

The Book Fair in the City is the fruit of the collaboration between the Book Fair and its partners (cultural sites, libraries, book shops, etc.) with a view to creating a programme, running from Wednesday to Sunday, including almost 200 meetings, debates, readings and workshops throughout the city!

On the agenda are art and history, in particular when these topics are explored in conjunction with personal stories, such as those of Spanish actresses Olivia Ruiz and Carole Martinez, at the Théâtre St-Gervais.

The spotlight will also be placed on modern-day struggles, with the writing workshops held by Mélanie Chappuis at the Théâtre St-Gervais in the company of women who have suffered from domestic violence, the issue of the body and female determination at the MEG, and writing as a militant act at Geneva Library.

The 9th art will not be ignored, with the MEG playing host to scriptwriter, David Vandermeulen, and cartoonist, Daniel Casanave, for their comic strip adaptation of the best-seller “Sapiens”. As is the case every year, the Ahmadou Kourouma Award – part of the African Fair in the City Encounters – will be presented to a French-language or African author or an author of African origin from sub-Saharan Africa for a work of fiction.

The readings in the city, the events programmes or the “share a book” sessions in which unknown people present their favourite book, will offer a number of new formats to be discovered during this edition of the fair!

And to promote this inspiring and eclectic programme, two guests of honour will be on hand: Leïla Slimani and Raphaël Enthoven.
