There will be sport in the city this summer! From 6 July to 23 August 2020, the City of Geneva will, for the first time, provide a range of 63 open-air classes entirely free of charge. These classes are intended for a wide audience, young and not so young, beginners and people who do sport on a regular basis.
To complete its summer sports offerings, the City of Geneva, under the impetus of Marie Barbey-Chappuis, the Administrative Councillor responsible for the Department of Safety and Sport, has decided to organise 63 one-hour classes this summer. This rich and varied offer is spread across seven weeks during the summer to satisfy the needs of the city’s inhabitants. “We want to offer people the chance to discover new sports or to do some form of physical exercise simply for the pleasure of being active outdoors,” explains Marie Barbey-Chappuis.
Supervised by professional coaches, these physical and sporting activities will be organised in a number of venues around the city on both sides of the lake: Ile Rousseau, Parc de la Perle du Lac, Varembé, Bains des Pâquis, Richemont, Baby-Plage and the Saint-Jean community centre.
A wide range of activities
A wide range of activities is on offer including yoga, silent zumba, stretching mobility (improved joint mobility), pilates, pushchair gym, summer running, thighs and abs strengthening and Swedish fit (fitness to music).
All these activities offer people the chance to do sport in groups, regardless of their fitness levels or experience. These classes will be held outdoors and in accordance with the health measures in force.
The detailed programme, timetables and venues are now available.
Important: classes are provided free of charge, but online registration is mandatory as the number of places for each class is limited. Registrations will open at the end of each week for the subsequent week. Participants must be wearing trainers and comfortable sportswear and must bring their own towel and drink.
Area dedicated to dance, sport and relaxation
Another area dedicated to dance, sport and relaxation will open its doors on Quai Général-Guisan from 20 July to 27 September. A shaded, open-air sports hall and dance floor surrounded by plants will be set up. The exact programme for this venue will be announced at a later date, with free sports classes held in the morning and an introduction to dance organised at the end of the afternoon.
Activities for children aged 2 to 12 will also be organised at this lakeside venue every Wednesday by the Eaux-Vives community associations.
