Retrospective 2023

Geneva was able to offer the public enjoyable moments of sharing, leisure and emotions in 2023.

Changing with the seasons

People often say that there are no seasons any more… That’s not the case in Geneva, where each season is welcomed in turn. Winter has set up stall at La Banquise, a new complex offering saunas, massages, Nordic sports and a range of entertainment. It is also the season when the City lights up with the artistic installations of the Geneva Lux light festival. While spring blossomed in numerous parks, squares and streets around the City, summer set up camp at la Canopée, l’Asphalte and the summer refreshment stands. Convivial gathering places were set up in les Bergues and les Eaux-Vives, while Quai Wilson gained a new bathing area. And autumn wasn’t to be outdone, with the focus on heritage and seasonal festivals.

Delicious!

Geneva worked up an appetite in 2023 with numerous events and activities focussing on sustainable food, such as Festi’terroir, the A table! competition and the organisation of urban banquets in different neighbourhoods around the City.

Time for sport!

Geneva also got in shape in 2023, thanks to numerous free classes offered to the population throughout the year. It hosted major events, such as the Course de l’Escalade, which set a new record for the number of participants, the Bol d’Or, Geneva Marathon and the Swiss street-foot finals. It paid tribute to its champions at the Nuit du sport, and celebrated with Genève Servette Hockey Club as it won its first national title in April, as well as Servette FC Chênois women’s team, which became Swiss champion for the first time in its history.

It’s all happening in Geneva!

Finally, the City hosted numerous popular events such as the Fête de la musique, Musiques en été, the Escalade festivities, the Nuit des Musées, the Fête des écoles and the National Day on 1 August. It brought the harbour to life during Feu Ô Lac, with four days of drone shows over the Ascension weekend, and had the honour of hosting a monumental work by the artist Saype in September on Place des Nations.
