During the festive period, the municipal offices will be closed from Monday 25 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024 inclusive. Certain services and information or reception facilities will nevertheless remain open to the public.
The municipal officers will be closed from 25 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
Continued service
The municipal services which will remain on duty are the following:
- the Fire and Rescue Service, an integral part of the SIS group;
- the Municipal Police will provide a telephone service from Sunday to Wednesday, 6 a.m. to midnight, and from Thursday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. via its call centre: +41 22 418 22 22;
- the Undertakers, Cemeteries and Crematorium Service;
- the Civil Registry Office will provide a telephone hotline on 26 and 29 December and on 2 January, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., for home births only: +022 418 66 31.
Opening times during the festive period
Civil Registry Office
The offices of the City of Geneva Civil Registry Office will be closed from 25 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
A telephone hotline will be available on 26 December and 29 December as well as on 2 January, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., only for declarations of home births occurring during this period: +022 418 66 31.
Municipal Police
The reception desks of the Municipal Police stations will be closed from 22 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive. However, the Municipal Police call centre will remain at your disposal and will take calls on 022 418 22 22 from Sunday to Wednesday, 6 a.m. to midnight, and from Thursday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Espace Ville de Genève
The Espace Ville de Genève will be closed on 25 and 26 December and from 30 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive. It will operate shorter opening hours on 22 and 29 December (closing at 4 p.m.).
Libraries
- Geneva Library (BGE): the four sites of Geneva Library (Bastions, Centre d'iconographie, La Musicale and Les Délices) will be closed from 24 December 2023 until 2 January 2024 inclusive.
- Municipal libraries: closed from 24 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
- Art and Archaeology Library: closed from Monday 25 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
Interroge
The Interroge service will be closed from the evening of Monday 18 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024 inclusive.
Museums and exhibition centres
- MEG: closed on Monday 25 December 2023 and Monday 1 January 2024. On the Sundays of 24 and 31 December 2023, the museum will close at 4 p.m. Usual opening hours will apply on other days (Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
- Museum of Natural History: closed 25 December and throughout 2024. On 24 and 31 December, the museum will close at 4 p.m. It will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Museum of Science History: closed 25 December and 1 January 2024. On 24 and 31 December, the museum will close at 4 p.m. It will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Art and History Museum and Maison Tavel: closed on Monday 25 December 2023 and Monday 1 January 2024. On the Sundays of 24 and 31 December 2023, the museum will close early at 4 p.m. Usual opening hours will apply on other days (Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as on Thursday from midday to 9 p.m. for the MAH and Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Maison Tavel).
- GamMAH: closed from 25 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
- Musée Rath: closed on 25 and 26 December 2023 and 1 and 2 January 2024. Exceptionally open on other days from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Musée Ariana: closed on Monday 25 December 2023 and Monday 1 January 2024. On Sunday 24 and Sunday 31 December 2023, the museum will adopt special opening times from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Botanical Conservatory and Gardens: the gardens and greenhouses will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Conservatory and Library will be closed from 23 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive.
- Geneva Library (BGE) will serve up a number of virtual exhibitions that can be enjoyed at any time. La nuit de l'Escalade, Représenter le monde, d'après Perron et Reclus and Pure Gignoux.
City of Geneva ticket office
The opening times and dates of the different points of sale of the City of Geneva ticket office are as follows:
- The ticket office at the Maison des arts du Grütli, will be closed on Monday 25 December 2023 and 1 January 2024.
- The City of Geneva ticket office located at Genève Tourisme on Quai du Mont-Blanc will be closed on Monday 25 December 2023 and Monday 1 January 2024.
- The Cité Seniors ticket office will be closed from 23 December 2023 to 8 January 2024.
- The Espace Ville de Genève ticket office will be closed on 25 and 26 December and from 30 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive (shortened opening hours on 22 and 29 December: closing at 4 p.m.).
Sports facilities
- Les Vernets swimming pool will be closed on 24 December (from 4 p.m.), 25 December, 31 December and 1 January 2024. It will be open from 26 to 29 December (from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and on 30 December (from 7 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.)
- Varembé swimming pool will be closed from 4 p.m. on 24 December to 1 January 2024 inclusive.
- Les Vernets ice rink will be closed on 24 December (from 4 p.m.), 25 December, 31 December and 1 January 2024.

The office of Public Areas Service will be closed from 23 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive. It will open again on 3 January 2024, at 8 a.m.

- Plainpalais info centre: closed from 22 December (5 p.m.) to 2 January inclusive. Re-opening on 3 January at 8.30 a.m.
- La Servette info centres: closed from 22 December (5 p.m.) to 2 January inclusive. Re-opening on 3 January at 8.30 a.m.
- Local social outreach centres: closed from 22 December (5 p.m.) to 2 January inclusive. Re-opening on 3 January at 8.30 a.m.

The Early Childhood Information Bureau (BIPE) will be closed from Monday 25 December 2023 to Friday 5 January 2024.
Senior citizens
- Cité Seniors: closed from 23 December 2023 to Monday 8 January 2024 inclusive.
- Espace Emma Louise Zell: closed from Friday 22 December 2023 to Monday 8 January 2024 inclusive.
Social emergency service
The Club social rive gauche will be closed on Monday 1 January 2024. During the festive period, it will organise different meals:
- Sunday 24 December: meals on site or to take away at 11 a.m., midday and 1 p.m. (distribution of tickets from 10.30 a.m.);
- Monday 25 December: Christmas lunch at 11 a.m., midday and 1 p.m. (distribution of tickets from 10.30 a.m.);
- Sunday 31 December: meals on site or to take away at 11 a.m., midday and 1 p.m. (distribution of tickets from 10.30 a.m.) and Réveillon de la solidarité New Year’s Eve party at Plainpalais community centre from 7 p.m.
Temporary housing unit (ULT)
The temporary housing unit will be closed from Monday 25 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024 inclusive.
Undertakers, Cemeteries and Crematorium Service
The Undertakers, Cemeteries and Crematorium Service will be open to the public throughout the festive period according to the following schedule:
- Organisation of funerals (Av. de la Concorde 20, 1203 Genève, Tel. 022 418 60 00). Times: Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays (25 December, 1 January and 2 January) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Mortuaries at the Saint-Georges funeral centre (Chemin de la Bâtie 13, 1213 Petit-Lancy, Tel. 022 418 67 00). Times: Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays (25 December, 1 January and 2 January) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Mortuaries at les Rois funeral centre (Chemin de la Bâtie 10, 1204 Petit-Lancy, Tel. 022 418 67 40). Times: Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to midday and from 1 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays (25 December, 1 January and 2 January) only open to families with a badge.
- Cemeteries administration (Avenue du Cimetière 1, 1213 Petit-Lancy, Tel. 022 418 67 00). Times: Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays (25 December, 1 January and 2 January) closed.
- Cremations and burials will take place from Tuesday 26 December to Friday 29 December 2023, then again from 3 January 2024.
Municipal property management
The municipal property management service will be closed from Monday 25 December 2023 to Friday 5 January 2024 inclusive. It will re-open its doors on Monday 8 January 2024.
Municipal business tax
The offices and switchboard of the Municipal Business Tax Office will be closed from Friday 22 December 2023 to 7 January 2024 inclusive.
