Community centres: new programmes!

Starting in January, more than a hundred new activities will be available in the community centres of the City of Geneva. The programmes for the first half of 2020 are now available online. Discover everything that is happening near you! Organised by the inhabitants for the inhabitants, these activities were selected following a call for projects issued by the Social Service.

The City boasts eleven community centres, most of which have recently been renovated. To ensure that everyone can take advantage of these community facilities, these centres are broadly open to the associations and inhabitants of the different districts, and in particular to senior citizens who traditionally used these premises. The community centres are key elements of the local social outreach policy developed by the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity.

A choice of a hundred activities

Following a hugely successful call for projects, outstanding programmes – developed in collaboration with inhabitants and partners – have been organised for the public since the start of the school year in September. And to meet the demands of the public, these programmes have been updated for all the community centres for the period January-June 2020.

The criteria for inclusion in the community centre programmes were simple: the activities were to be firmly rooted within the local community while ensuring a link with the social policy of the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity.

At the start of this new year, a hundred activities are available in the different community centres, bearing witness to the creativity of the local partners of the Social Service.

Here is an overview:

  • sports activities for children and teenagers
  • activities for senior citizens including dance, gymnastics, time together, etc.
  • various workshops including IT, cooking, inter-generational games, etc.
  • academic support, etc.

All these activities are accessible free of charge or at a very low cost. To discover all the courses, workshops and other events on offer, consult the programmes available for download below! You are sure to find something near you that satisfies your expectations, with the chance to meet plenty of people to boot.

You can also contact the information centre in your district. To enrol, please contact the people or associations listed as contact partners for the different programmes.
