The cantons can order additional measures for a limited duration
27 March 2020 – As part of the effort to combat the coronavirus, the Federal Council can authorise the cantons to order the restriction or complete shut-down of activities in certain sectors of the economy if the epidemiological situation requires it. During the session of 27 March 2020, the Federal Council adopted an ordinance amendment to this end. It also specified that it is still possible to move house, provided that the directives of the FOPH are respected.
On 20 March 2020, during an extraordinary session, the State Council took a number of new decisions relating to the exceptional situation caused by the fight to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In particular, these included cancelling the vote scheduled for 17 May 2020, suspending the deadlines for political rights, maintaining the second round of voting in the municipal elections and adopting emergency economic measures.
During its session of 24 March, the Administrative Council confirmed certain measures and took additional ones in order to address the crisis linked to the spread of Covid-19. The costs of using public areas have thus been greatly reduced while actions taken to support isolated people or those living in a precarious situation have been reinforced.
