Launched in Geneva in 1997, the western Swiss pride parade will return to Geneva this year following huge success in 2019 and 2021 when, despite the health crisis, more than 30,000 people marched together through the streets.

Starting on 6 June, a series of meetings and events will be held, culminating in the grand Pride Parade on 10 June, denouncing the numerous forms of discrimination that the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer communities (LGBTIQ+) still suffer today and demanding equal rights.

To welcome such a large-scale event, the municipal services will naturally be particularly involved, providing subsidies and free services as well as logistical support.

Coordinated by and with the financial support of the Agenda 21 – Sustainable City Service, the Public Spaces Service (SEP) will manage the numerous authorisations required, the Municipal Real Estate Management Service (GIM) will make the Plainpalais and Palladium community centres available, the Logistics and Events Service (LOM) and the Cultural Service (SEC) will provide festive equipment and their technical expertise, the Planning, Civil Engineering and Mobility Service (AGCM) will handle the lighting of the monuments and the SPM will provide security staff, while the Parks and Gardens Service (SEVE) will ensure that Parc des Bastions remains undamaged and will make the car park close to Quai Wilson available for traffic control purposes. Finally, the Roads Management – Clean City Service (VVP) will clean up the city once the event is over.

Strong public involvement

For the occasion, the City of Geneva will also underline its values and highlight its commitment to combating all forms of discrimination, with the Mayor, Mr Alfonso Gomez, making a speech at 6 p.m. on Saturday 10 June in Parc des Bastions, a public poster campaign in the streets lasting two weeks, the decoration of the Pont du Mont-Blanc, the Palais Anna et Jean-Gabriel Eynard, Place Neuve and Place de Cornavin, and the illumination of certain highly symbolic monuments

Finally, all the staff are invited to participate in the parade on 10 June alongside Rainbow Ville, the association of LGBTIQ+ staff which is a key ally of the municipal administration.
