The Natural History Museum presents a new exhibition at les Bains des Pâquis, which unlocks the secrets about the intense life hidden in...a drop of water!
A drop of water from Lake Geneva magnified under a microscope reveals a very intense, and often incredibly beautiful, microcosm of life!
There are diatoms, minuscule single-celled algae that can take quite astonishing forms and live suspended in the water. Present in every aquatic environment, they live either in colonies or in isolation, using carbon dioxide and mineral substances in a process of photosynthesis to make their shell while also producing organic matter and oxygen.
It is this invisible and infinitely small world that the exhibition explores at les Bains des Pâquis until the end of April, promoted by the Natural History Museum.
So the next time you inadvertently get a mouthful of water when taking dip, just remember... a whole world that you’re swallowing...
