As in 2020, the City of Geneva, the Canton of Geneva, the Association of the Municipalities of Geneva and the Cantonal Sport Aid Fund have joined forces to implement a Covid-19 special subsidies fund to support sports associations experiencing difficulties.

In light of the difficulties experienced by sports associations linked to the current health crisis, the public entities in Geneva have decided to renew the financial support provided in 2020.
In 2021, for the second consecutive year, a special Covid-19 fund will be introduced and endowed with one million Swiss francs. It will be used to help stakeholders in the world of sport in and around Geneva which are entitled to submit requests from 22 March 2021. The 4 entities in Geneva have each agreed to inject 250,000 francs into this campaign.
“Several clubs and associations facing financial difficulties are in danger of closing their doors definitively, which would be a huge blow for sporting activities in the City of Geneva and the offer we wish to make available to our population,” explains Marie Barbey-Chappuis, Administrative Councillor in the City of Geneva.
The sports clubs and associations located within the canton will now be able to request financial aid by submitting their request directly via the platform hosted on the Sports Fund website.
This emergency service, in the form of an online one-stop shop, enables sporting entities meeting the criteria to submit a request for exceptional assistance, linked to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on their finances. Submission of a request in no way guarantees that the public authorities will grant financial support. Each request must include formal supporting documents testifying to a financial deficit resulting from the current situation. The amounts will be allocated according to the number of requests submitted.
For memory’s sake, these same 4 partners already joined forces in 2020 to provide financial aid to sports associations affected by the health crisis. They created a special support fund endowed with one million francs. Between March and September 2020, the fund received 102 requests, of which some 58 were satisfied in accordance with the allocation criteria.
