The 2020 edition of the Geneva Semaine du Goût competition was brought to an end with the traditional awards ceremony organised during the “Sustainable Food Forum” (from 12 to 16 October). The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday 14 October at the Palais Anna et Jean-Gabriel Eynard, at an event attended by Administrative Councillor Alfonso Gomez, the winners and their families, the members of the jury and the partners of the competition.

“In a difficult context for the sector, the prizes awarded as part of this competition represent a wonderful acknowledgement for the restaurateurs who focus on the traceability of their products and the creativity of their cuisine. More generally speaking, the awards are just reward for those restaurant owners committed to a diversified, ecological diet firmly rooted in the local economic fabric. Furthermore, the new prize awarded this year for vegetarian cuisine underlines the importance of our dietary choices in both our well-being and the future of our planet,” explains Alfonso Gomez, Administrative Councillor responsible for the Department of Finance, Housing and the Environment.

According to Gautier Extermann, managing partner of the restaurant Les Fourneaux du Manège, “the Semaine du Goût is a common philosophy that we are proud to share with both our clientele and our local producers throughout the year. This Semaine du Goût also provides an opportunity to showcase the rich diversity of local products that we are particularly fond of and which lie at the very heart of our approach.”

Monica Barros, Head Chef and owner of the restaurant “Le Boteco”, shares the same vision: At “Le Boteco”, we work with local products throughout the year. We enjoy preparing international culinary specialities using local products. It is better, more ecological and helps drive the regional economy! The advantage of the Semaine du Goût is being able to share this local know-how with the customers. It really is an outstanding adventure, both in people terms and for the taste buds!”

The Geneva Semaine du Goût competition enjoys financial support from the Office for the Promotion of Agricultural Products from Geneva – OPAGE, the Cantonal Sustainable Development Department of the State of Geneva and the Société des Cafetiers, Restaurateurs et Hôteliers de Genève. It is organised in collaboration with the Association genevoise pour la promotion du Goût. The Semaine du Goût in Geneva and the associated competition are the focal point of the programme coordinated by the City of Geneva entitled “Automne du Goût”, which began with Festi’Terroir at the end of the summer and will draw to a close this week with the 2nd edition of the Sustainable Food Forum
