Outdoor facilities and public amenities within the framework of the “Caserne des Vernets” project

The City of Geneva is keen to pursue its negotiations with the Canton with a view to improving the outdoor facilities and public amenities within the framework of the “Caserne des Vernets” project.

The decision taken by the Cantonal Department of Land Planning to grant building permits for the planned large-scale housing and activities programme in les Vernets has given rise to numerous reactions from the local population.

Moreover, petition P-415 “Caserne des Vernets: pour un projet à taille humaine” (Caserne des Vernets: in favour of a project on a human scale), widely supported by the Municipal Council, has collected more than 1,100 signatures.

In light of the climate-related and social issues, the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva has furthermore decided to pursue its negotiations relating to the “Caserne des Vernets” project with a view to introducing improvements, in particular concerning the outdoor facilities and public amenities.

Outdoor areas

In outdoor areas, these improvements primarily involve planting trees in Rue François-Dussaud, removing ha-has from public areas and developing the banks of the Arve (green lane).

With regard to the nursery and community centre, the organisation will be modified to take account of the needs expressed by the users, in particular installing a games library on the ground floor of one of the buildings.

Furthermore, the City will continue to demand that the height of individual floors be maintained at 2.60 m in order to ensure adequate habitability of the accommodation.

The Municipal Department of Planning, Construction and Mobility will contact the Cantonal Department of Land Planning with regard to this matter.
