It’s already been 10 years! The city inaugurated the Plainpalais Skatepark in 2012. This meeting place for young people – skateboarders, rollerbladers, BMX riders and freestyle scooterists – has become a firm fixture on the international urban sports scene. Over the years, young girls have increasingly made their presence felt.
One sport a day
To celebrate this anniversary, the public is invited to take part in a festival of events, where each day is devoted to a specific discipline:
- Wednesday, 17 August: inline skating
- Thursday, 18 August: BMX
- Friday, 19 August: quad skating
- Saturday, 20 August: skateboarding
- Sunday, 21 August: scootering
Throughout the week, the various activities, including dance, will be presented in the form of demonstrations, taster sessions and workshops.
Workshops to raise awareness of harassment in public spaces will be held on Wednesday, 17 August (prior registration required). A round table discussing where young people stand in the public realm will complete the programme on Friday, 19 August.
On Saturday, 20 August, a musical evening featuring live music, a concert and a DJ set is being organised at the a Kzern. On Sunday, 21 August, the public will be able to witness exciting competitions and the official part of the event complete with prize-giving.
The event’s details and times are available on the dedicated diary page of the city's website and in the downloadable programme below.
This event is organised by the Youth Department with funding from Services Industriels de Genève and in partnership with the associations using the skatepark:
