Posters drawn by children for the public facility construction site in the Jonction Ecoquartier

A group of pupils from the Plantaporrêts and Mail schools participated in creating posters as part of their extracurricular activities. Their work can be admired on the fence around the construction site along Boulevard de St-Georges.

Drawings to take ownership of the project

A site visit and several workshops offered the children the chance to familiarise themselves with the public facility building currently under construction in the Jonction Écoquartier. They then imagined and represented different stages of the construction as well as the life that will soon fill this new building. Their drawings adorn the fence around the construction site on Boulevard de St-Georges.

Increasing awareness of urban planning

This project was implemented in collaboration with the association "Chantier Ouvert" which aims to increase public awareness of architecture and ensure a better understanding of the urban landscape. The posters were designed on a small scale before being produced and printed on larger scale, rather like architect’s plans which are then given to the other trades involved to be put into practice.

An action designed to promote children’s rights

These posters materialise several objectives of the action plan for promoting children’s rights adopted by the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva in 2015:
- to encourage children to be interested in public areas and the respectful use that should be made of it;
- to take account of their vision of urban heritage;
- to engage the public in order to encourage reflection on the participation of children in city life.

The site in a nutshell

The public facility project implemented by the Lacroix-Chessex architect’s office is entirely in line with the Jonction Écoquartier. It brings together three separate programmes: a children’s centre, a multi-disciplinary venue and a sports hall. Spatially speaking, these programmes are organised quite naturally: the adult facilities (sport and multi-disciplinary venue) are on the ground floor while the children’s world (nursery and extracurricular facilities) is located upstairs. The architectural style is that of a large brick house sitting on a concrete table.
