Two new refreshment stands by the water and an itinerant service for bathers along Quai Wilson

The City of Geneva has decided to reissue a call for projects for three consecutive summer seasons (2023-2025), on the Quai marchand du Mont-Blanc and Quai du Rhône. And two new refreshment stands have been chosen. They will be run by private operators.

“Bronzette” and “l'Estivale” have closed their doors. These two summer entertainment venues, put out to tender in 2019, ceased to function at the end of 2022. In light of the subsequent assessment, it is clear that this type of activity is very popular with both the local population and visiting tourists.

The City of Geneva has therefore decided to reissue a call for projects for three consecutive summer seasons (2023-2025), on the Quai marchand du Mont-Blanc and Quai du Rhône. And two new refreshment stands have been chosen. They will be run by private operators.

From 16 June 2023, Le Cormoran will replace “Bronzette” on the Quai marchand du Mont-Blanc. “Le Cormoran” serves up a concept reflecting a maritime atmosphere reminiscent of a marina.

In terms of food and drink, “Le Cormoran” proposes fresh fruit juices and toasts for breakfast. At lunch and in the evening, the menu will include an original selection of salads and sandwiches. Refreshing drinks and local beers will be ideal for quenching your thirst.

On Wednesdays, “Le Cormoran” will organise “cinema” evenings with musical improvisations accompanied by local artists. Friday evenings are reserved for concerts.

There is also a programme specially designed for children, including an introduction to circus arts run by the association Cirqu’en Bulle as well as drawing, make-up and yoga workshops.

“Urban”, Quai du Rhône

Table tennis in a “street art” atmosphere is the concept proposed by "Urban", the new summer refreshment stand located on Quai du Rhône. Particular emphasis has been placed on the décor, with Geneva-based artists Jazi and Tones customising containers, table tennis tables and other fixtures with their spray cans.

To create the furniture, the team wanted to make maximum use of recycled objects. Pallets and tyres transformed into sofas and chairs give the place an industrial retro look.

The menu is simple, consisting of local, home-made products. Locally prepared tarts and traditional ice cream are also on the menu.

To encourage people to meet, freely accessible tennis tables have been set up and can be used free of charge. Anyone who doesn't have their equipment with them can hire bats and balls on site.

Artistic activities are also organised, allowing young and old alike to become more familiar with street art. An introduction to graffiti, group painting workshops, live painting, theatre improvisation and stand-up comedy sessions will be organised here.

New bathing area on Quai Wilson

Opened just after Ascension, temporary facilities have been installed on Quai Wilson offering bathers access to a demarcated swimming lane (by the Hôtel Président Wilson). Four access ramps to the water have been installed.

Beginning today and throughout the summer, a mobile drinks and snacks seller will be on hand on the quay along the bathing area. A call for projects will be issued this autumn for a permanent refreshment stand on the quay from summer 2024.

Bathing is authorised from midday to 10 p.m., only in the demarcated zone. Attention, use of the zone is at the bathers’ own risk. No lifeguards will be present.
