The solidarity vouchers are now available

On 7 December, the City of Geneva launched its system of solidarity vouchers. Through a discount of 20% funded by the municipality, this operation is designed to support local businesses and give the city’s inhabitants a helping hand. This action also promotes the local Léman currency.

The solidarity vouchers developed by the City of Geneva are now on sale to the canton’s inhabitants, with a discount of 20% financed by the municipality. In real terms, between 7 December 2020 and 15 January 2021, inhabitants of Geneva can purchase an unlimited number of vouchers worth 20, 50, 100 and 200 francs via the Genève Avenue platform, selecting one or more shops located around the city.

Food stores, with the exception of those selling wine and chocolate, are excluded from the campaign.

Currently, some 130 shops are participating in this operation on Genève Avenue. These vouchers cost customers 16, 40, 80 and 160 francs respectively, while the business owners themselves receive the full price of the voucher immediately.

The vouchers can be used until 31 December 2021, either via the geneveavenue.ch platform or directly in the chosen store.

Promotion of the local Léman currency

People who purchase a voucher from a store which accepts the local Léman currency will also benefit from a credit in Lémans worth 20% of the value of their voucher. In tangible terms, this means that for 80 francs spent, the customer will receive a voucher worth 120 francs.

Furthermore, if a person takes this opportunity to open their own Léman account, they will be credited with an additional 20 Lémans, corresponding to 20 francs.

This local currency increases the resilience of the local economic fabric and facilitates trade.

Environmentally-friendly deliveries and technical service

Purchases made online or in stores will be delivered by the e-bike delivery service caddie service.

Until 31 January 2021, this service will be provided free of charge to any resident living in the City of Geneva, subject to transport capacity. From 1 February to 31 December 2021, deliveries by caddie service will be billed at a preferential rate of 5 francs.

People who are not accustomed to completing procedures online can obtain assistance by contacting Espace Ville de Genève on 022 418 99 00. A simplified process has been implemented for companies wishing to order a large number of vouchers.

It should be recalled that on 19 November, as part of the emergency support measures for the local economy in relation to the health crisis, the Administrative Council announced the introduction of a solidarity voucher system intended for shops located within the City of Geneva. The campaign is implemented in partnership with geneveavenue.ch, Fondetec and the “Monnaie Léman” network. On 24 November, the Municipal Council approved a credit line of 2.5 million francs, allowing the administration to implement this project. This operation aims to support local business and enhance the purchasing power of the citizens of Geneva in light of the difficult situation caused by the 2nd wave of COVID-19.
