This series of reasonably-priced concerts is held in Victoria Hall, one Sunday every month from autumn through to spring.
Looking at the numerous musical ensembles that play here and the high level of emerging artists, Geneva is very definitely a musical city. A short, self-contained season in itself with a series of eight performances, the Sunday Concerts are a great illustration of the musical excellence to be enjoyed in the city: the programme places local cultural operators and ensembles from elsewhere in the spotlight, serving up a journey through different musical styles and aesthetics.
Sunday 23 February – Camerata Bern
Patricia Kopatchinskaja violin and conductor
Ah Young Hong soprano
Michael Hersch composer-in-residence
Programme designed by Reto Bieri and Patricia Kopatchinskaja
Sunday 15 March – Eklekto and Diego Innocenzi
The Eklekto and Diego Innocenzi ensemble stage this event, alternating contrasting pieces: in the middle of the first part, the organ typifies mildness, legato, with the serenity of Mad Rush by Philip Glass.
Sunday 5 April – Geneva, Lausanne and Lugano universities
Emilio Pomàrico conductor
Sunday 10 May – Geneva Chamber Orchestra
Arie van Beek conductor
Diego Innocenzi organ
It should be noted that these concerts at the Victoria Hall reflect a desire to open classical music to the general public with preferential rates and a pleasant time frame of 5 p.m. accessible to every age.
