Varembé swimming pool: now you can swim until 10 p.m., two evenings per week

From the week starting 24 August, users of the Varembé swimming pool will benefit from extended opening times, similar to those adopted at les Vernets swimming pool in September 2019. With swimming pools reaching full capacity, these extended opening times are designed to meet the needs of swimmers in the City of Geneva.

For a number of years, the Sports Service has observed that the City’s swimming pools  have reached full capacity. The lanes designated for public use are very busy and the needs of the clubs are growing.

This observation is confirmed by the different studies conducted by the City’s services. “Practised by some 32% of the population, swimming is one of the favourite sports among local inhabitants and the City has therefore found itself obliged to extend the opening times of swimming pools in the evenings to meet this high demand,” explains Administrative Councillor Marie Barbey-Chappuis, responsible for the Department of Safety and Sports.

“By opening Varembé swimming pool  until 10 p.m. two evenings a week, we have also satisfied the desire of the Municipal Council which had adopted a motion with this in mind,” she continues.

Opening times will return to normal from 24 August, with the pools opening at 7 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. The extended opening times at Varembé swimming pool will therefore enable the public to continue swimming until 10 p.m. two nights per week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Les Vernets swimming pool, however, is temporarily closed for annual maintenance work (change of water in the pools). It will re-open on 14 September, with its usual opening times. These can be found on the City of Geneva website.
