Warning for people applying for accommodation

The municipal real estate management service of the City of Geneva has issued a warning concerning individuals falsely claiming to be employees of the City of Geneva. These individuals make contact with people looking for accommodation via the social networks. This is a fraudulent practice and the management service advises the population never to follow up on these proposals.

The municipal real estate management service warns anyone applying for accommodation against the behaviour of individuals falsely claiming to be employees of the City of Geneva and who contact people looking for accommodation.

Fraudulent practices

These individuals, who primarily operate via the social networks, demand the payment of sums of money to open a file and supposedly advise people in search of accommodation. This is a fraudulent practice which should never be followed up.

If you have already been the victim of this type of practice, please do not hesitate to file a criminal complaint with the cantonal police. The municipal real estate management service will be happy to provide any useful advice.
