100 years and more of business in Geneva: the City is committed to promoting the local economy

From 25 to 29 May 2021, 14 leading businesses in Geneva dating back more than 100 years will celebrate their history while promoting their know-how and the art of living in the City of Geneva. The City of Geneva is naturally playing a part in the event.

In preparing to celebrate their 100th anniversaries in 2021, la Grande boucherie du Molard and La Bonbonnière chocolate factory decided to promote local business and the historic companies plying their trade in Rue de la Croix d’Or and Rue de la Corraterie.

Firmly rooted in the cultural heritage of the city centre, Aeschbach, Bongénie Grieder, Brachard, Caran d’Ache, Caviar House, Dupin, Fleuriot, La Bonbonnière, La Boucherie du Molard, La Cave du Palais de Justice, La Pharmacie Principale, Le Café du Centre, Mayor and Payot abide by the common values of sharing, proximity and quality.

These different businesses dating back a hundred years or more have joined forces to offer the public the chance to discover their history and their specialities through tastings, workshops and other events held over a period of 5 days.

Two highlights

On Thursday 27 May 2021, the businesses participating in the 100 years and more of business in Geneva operation will invite the population to discover an evening programme comprising encounters, concerts and living shop windows. And on Saturday 29 May 2021, it’s family time with, among other things, games, tempting demonstrations and a magician. As a partner of the event, Taxibike will provide its services to enable people with reduced mobility, in particular, to enjoy the event and to benefit from easy access to the different venues.

The involvement of the City of Geneva

Geneva has a rich history in the sphere of business. With its idyllic setting between the lake and the mountains, the city centre and its numerous shops, accessible on foot, are genuinely attractive. It is therefore entirely natural that the City is participating in the 100 years and more of business in Geneva operation which gives pride of place to the creativity, capacity to innovate, dynamism and diversity of the local economy.

The economic policy adopted by the municipality aims to promote and defend craftsmanship, local business and a diversified, sustainable economy. Ensuring vibrant public areas is also a priority. The City has therefore facilitated use of the public sphere to promote and hold the events. As an exceptional measure, the City has also granted a discount on advertising linked to this event.
