Registering a power of attorney, modifying or cancelling such a registration

This produced enables you to register the creation and location of a power of attorney in the digital federal Infostar register and to modify or cancel this power of attorney.

Since 1 January 2013, the new adult protection law has offered any person capable of making an informed decision with the possibility of designating a natural or legal person to provide them with personal assistance, manage their assets or represent them in legal dealings with third parties if their illness or accident were to deprive them of their discernment. This power of attorney is drafted:

  • either as a holograph: written, dated and signed by hand;
  • or in authentic form: prepared by a notary.

What is the fee?

The stipulated fee is CHF 75 and may be accompanied by other costs.

Which documents are required?

You will need proof of identity.

Foreign citizens will have to contact the selected civil registry office.

All documents requested must be originals, dated within the last 6 months.

In the event of documents in a foreign language (other than the national languages), the civil registry office may demand a translation. Depending on the agreements between Switzerland and the country which issued the documents, legalisation by the relevant authorities may need to be provided.

What to do?

To register the power of attorney in the digital Infostar register, simply submit a request to a civil registry office in Switzerland.

The registration can be modified or cancelled via any civil registry office in Switzerland.
