Since 1 January 2013, this procedure has enabled people who changed their name when getting married or when contracting an official partnership to revert to their maiden name at any time be it when married, following a divorce, following the dissolution of the partnership, or after a death.

This procedure also enables a spouse who changed their name on the occasion of a marriage celebrated before 2013 to revert to their maiden name at any time.
What deadlines must be observed?
A request to revert to a maiden name can be made at any time via any civil registry in Switzerland.
What is the fee?
The fee is CHF 75 Additional fees may apply, depending on the situations.

To revert to your maiden name, simply submit a request to the civil registry district in Switzerland.
At the civil registry office of the City of Geneva, this procedure can be performed solely by appointment.
