Since 1 January 2013, this procedure has enabled people who changed their name when getting married or when contracting an official partnership to revert to their maiden name at any time be it when married, following a divorce, following the dissolution of the partnership, or after a death.

This procedure also enables a spouse who changed their name on the occasion of a marriage celebrated before 2013 to revert to their maiden name at any time.
