Want to do urban sports? Sports enjoying a huge increase in popularity? Then come to “L’Asphalte”, a temporary covered site where anyone is free to do sport at absolutely no cost.

Taking advantage of the covered premises in la Jonction vacated by the TPG, the City of Geneva has created “L’Asphalte”, a temporary sports centre open to both children and adults until 9 October.

Sport in all weathers

Based on the model proposed during the summer of 2021, the Department of Security and Sport (DSSP) has developed a project focussing on different sports:

  • padel tennis, a racquet sport somewhere between tennis and squash, is becoming increasingly popular in numerous countries, while there are still very few courts to be found in the Canton of Geneva. An online system for reserving courts has been set up;
  • five-a-side football, a sport for which there is currently no covered pitch with synthetic turf in the City of Geneva;
  • 3X3 basketball, with l’Asphalte home to the only covered court in the city;
  •  beach volleyball, again with l’Asphalte home to the only covered court in the city;
  • skateboarding.

A pump track will be installed to enable young people to use their scooters and skateboards on a secure and properly adapted infrastructure.

“L’Asphalte” therefore offers the chance to enjoy these sports even in the event of bad weather, as the site is covered.

A graffiti workshop will also be organised for your people during this period.

Practical information

Free access to the installations

These sports installations are freely accessible from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Padel court reservations

To play padel tennis at L’Asphalte, it is advisable to reserve your court online.

Equipment available

Sports equipment – and in particular padel racquets – can be borrowed on site via a connected locker (BoxUp).

Sporting activities

Sporting activities are organised on Wednesday afternoons and at weekends. The programme of these activities can be consulted below and on the Facebook page of the City of Geneva.

Through this project, the DSSP wants to offer the residents of Geneva, and more particularly young people, the possibility of taking advantage of a temporary sports infrastructure and thus to make positive use of this site.

A sport-filled summer

Alongside la Canopée, this project – developed with the local residents in mind – is one of the flagship projects of Marie Barbey-Chappuis’ year in office as Mayor, placed under the banner of sport.
