Dossier d'information COVID-19: Mesures prises par la Ville de Genève

Public infrastructures closed

A number of public infrastructures and places or areas located on the public domain in Geneva have been closed until further notice to limit the spread of the new coronavirus. Other public spaces have been specifically designed to take into account the extraordinary context of COVID-19.

Public infrastructures and events

From the beginning of March, in order protect the population, several public infrastructures have been gradually closed and events have been canceled.

Markets and food stands

Despite the suspension of all markets, which are major meeting points, since March 16 in accordance with the Federal Council ordinance, isolated food stands have been opened on the Plaine de Plainpalais and on Place de la Navigation since April 16 to sell basic food products from the region. The system enables as many traders as possible to sell their products and prioritise producers.

From Monday 11 May 2020, all markets, except Grottes market, reopen (usual hours and days).

Closure of construction sites

In accordance with the ordinance issued by the State Council, the City of Geneva has closed all its work sites from midday 20 March, including those relating to the maintenance of public areas. The conditions for resuming work are examined on a case-by-case basis with the aim of complying with the health measures established by the federal and cantonal authorities.

Closure of certain car parks

The car parks of the following locations are currently closed or reserved for nursing staff:

  • Centre sportif du Bois-des-Frères (reopening from 11 May)
  • Centre sportif de Vessy (reopening from 11 May)
  • Centre sportif du Bout-du-Monde (reopening from 11 May)
  • Parc des Eaux-Vives

By decision of the State of Geneva, the perimeter of the Geneva lakeside has also been prohibited for parking. While the parking zones will gradually be reopened, certain access roads will remain closed such as Quai de Cologny around the Tour Carrée, thereby creating additional relaxation areas in the immediate vicinity of the lake.

Opening of drinking fountains

The re-opening of the fountains distributing drinking water has been brought forward this year after the winter break in order to provide the citizens with additional facilities during this period of epidemic.
