Communication adapted to the new habits and demands of modern-day citizens
Since 2010, the City of Geneva has strengthened its digital communication tool by creating a centralised website containing a wealth of information. With content accessible via computers and mobile phones – also adapted to non-French speakers – as well as the possibility of interacting directly via the social networks, the aim is to facilitate access to information and public services.
A centralised website
Since 2010, the City of Geneva has strengthened its digital communication tool by creating a centralised website containing a wealth of information.
Accessible content
Particular care has been taken in writing the content to ensure that it is comprehensible for all inhabitants, regardless of their knowledge of the French language or their level of education.
The information and communication unit has placed particular emphasis on using clear language and avoiding administrative jargon. This also allows the City’s web pages to enjoy better referencing on Google, thus simplifying access when looking for specific information.
English language pages
From autumn 2019, numerous pages will also be available in English to enable English-speaking visitors or inhabitants to find useful information on everyday life and leisure activities. With more than 2.5 million visits per year, the City’s website serves to keep citizens in the loop, alongside other digital tools.
Content accessible by mobile phone
All the City of Geneva’s websites (the official website, the institutions’ websites and websites dedicated to specific events) incorporate responsive design, allowing visitors to browse the sites using a smartphone or tablet. A range of mobile apps completes the City’s digital offering for smartphones, reflecting the new online user habits.
Direct dialogue on the social networks
The City of Geneva is also present on the social networks to encourage dialogue with citizens who have a quick, simple and direct means of interacting with the city’s administration.
