Geneva committed to prevention in sport

The Association Genevoise des Sports, in collaboration with the Cantonal Office of Culture and Sport and the Sports Service of the City of Geneva, has issued a call for tenders for the position of Cantonal Prevention Officer for Sport.

Scheduled to take effect in spring 2022, this innovative position is a continuation of the estates general on violence in amateur football and is tasked with developing a centralised platform for the prevention of all forms of abuse in sport across the canton.

A call for tenders for the position of Cantonal Prevention Officer for Sport in Geneva has been issued today by the Association Genevoise des Sports (AGS), the Cantonal Office of Culture and Sport and the Sports Service of the City of Geneva. The person selected will be tasked with ensuring prevention not only in the clubs but also in the stadiums and during competitions with a view to reducing violence in sport, and in particular in team sports.

Support and advice for stakeholders in the field of sport

The first part of the mandate will involve mapping the existing situation and the associated needs as well as working with the steering committee, consisting of project partners and external experts, to define an action plan and the priority measures. At the same time, the successful candidate will be present in the field while providing support and advice to all stakeholders in the field of sport With this in mind, their tasks will include the implementation of training courses, in situ interventions and the coordination of prevention campaigns. The successful candidate will also act as the point of contact in this sphere for the local authorities, sports associations or other groups active in the field of prevention.

By taking on this position, which is innovative in terms of both its remit and its scope, the officer will also serve as “cantonal Cool and Clean delegate”. This Swiss Olympic programme is committed to fostering “clean, fair and high-performance sport” across the entire national territory. In this respect, the Prevention Officer will work with the national programme as well as with the other cantonal delegates.

The position will be jointly financed by the Canton, the City of Geneva and the “Cool and Clean” federal prevention programme. During the course of the initial renewable two-year remit, the aim will be to establish a close working partnership between the public authorities, the prevention organisations, the local sports facilities and the sportspeople themselves. An evaluation will be conducted at the end of the period.
