What a beautiful night!

During this annual event, the public lighting will be switched off for an entire night in numerous municipalities in the Greater Geneva area, including all those in the City of Geneva. This festive and educational action aims to increase awareness of the impacts of light pollution and to encourage people to change their practices.

La nuit est belle! Returns on Friday 22 September 2023 for a 4th edition on the theme of “Humans at night…”. More information

Since the very first edition, the City of Geneva has participated in the original “La nuit est belle!” action.

For the occasion, all public lighting (streets, squares, parks, etc.) and illuminations (public buildings, monuments, fountains, etc.) will remain switched off throughout the night.

The private sector is also called on to switch off the lights in stores, shop windows, signs and office buildings.

An annual event open to all

“La nuit est belle!” is in line with the City’s climate strategy to combat light pollution and make energy savings. It is also in line with the aims of the Light Plan, which has given rise to the “éteindre au coeur de la nuit” campaign (lights out at night) in order to limit excess artificial lighting.

“La nuit est belle!” is therefore intended to be a federating event open to all, providing an opportunity to enjoy the night in a different way, close to home, and to contribute to an ambitious city-wide challenge.

Info stand, cyclists stay visible!

To draw cyclists’ attention to their own safety and that of other users, Pro vélo Genève will run two “Action Lumière” stands. The aim is to provide cyclists with advice concerning their equipment and the right attitude to adopt when riding at night. Bike inspections, distribution of reflective equipment, etc.

The stands will be open on 14 and 22 September (4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.) at the southern end of la Plaine de Plainpalais and at the corner of Pont du Mont-Blanc and Quai Guisan.
