They are the summer accessory par excellence!
They can generally be found on the lawns in several parks around Geneva thanks to the deckchairs plan which makes them available to the public free of charge.

Aperitif workshops in the vegetable patch | 8 times from 7 July to 25 August
In collaboration with La Libellule, the Théâtre de l'Orangerie will organise eight aperitif-workshops in the vegetable patch; no prior registration required, price at your own discretion. From medicinal plants through potatoes and tomatoes to cereals, this is a chance to get your hands dirty while taking advantage of the theatre terrace with its refreshments stand.
Festi’terroir | 27 and 28 August
Take the opportunity to taste or buy craft beers, wines and other high-quality local products in Parc des Bastions with Festi’terroir, a large-scale festival devoted to direct selling and organic produce.
Open-air installations | throughout the summer
The ice-cream sellerrs around the bay, the summer refreshments in the parks and the various food-trucks will undoubtedly satisfy your desire for a little snack or something bigger. You can also use the grills provided by the City in several parks and enjoy a barbecue while respecting the nature.
Fill up on gourmet events | throughout the summer
Organised as part of Geneva, City of taste the sourdough bread workshop, local rally or picnic, gardening classes and lots of other surprises will give you the chance to savour the summer and fresh products.
Heritage escapades in the country | throughout the summer
The 3 new Compagnon guide maps takes us on a walk to discover the local agricultural heritage at the heart of the Allondon Valley or even in the Geneva “Far West”… while identifying the farms and vineyards selling produce directly, as well as the restaurants carrying the “Ambassadeur du terroir genevois” label. Swiss village | until 28 August
Throughout the summer, the Swiss Village welcomes the public to the Jardin anglais to share a meal with family or friends, taste some wine and other local products and enjoy evenings full of surprises! It is also the opportunity to take a ride on the big wheel and admire a clear view over the harbour, the Jardin anglais and the City of Geneva.

Water sports and activities | throughout the summer
Pedalos with a slide at the back or Paddle surfing offer you the chance to enjoy the waters of Lake Geneva while keeping cool. For bigger thrills, head for the River Arve for rafting or canoeing activities, a fun and original way of exploring the city.
Bathing sites | throughout the summer
With swimming pools, paddling pools, Lake Geneva and the rivers, there are more than enough opportunities to take a dip! A major new addition this year, the attractive sandy beach in les Eaux-Vives will welcome swimmers and sunbathers from 22 June to 29 September! To feel the rhythm of the music
Festival des Bastions | 2 June to 29 August
The bandstand in les Bastions resumes its original function for the second edition of the Festival des Bastions: it will play host to seven free concerts, ranging from electro through classical music and jazz to opera, to be enjoyed on the terrace, the surrounding grass or over dinner.
Musique en été | 6 July to 27 August
Every year, Geneva’s flagship summer festival, Musiques en été, combines heritage and musical trends with its eclectic and generous programme. In total, 32 concerts will offer the public the chance to enjoy a selection of music that is more vibrant than ever while admiring the lush settings of the Scène Ella Fitzgerald (parc La Grange) and the Botanical Conservatory and Gardens.
Aubes musicales | 1 to 29 August
A magical, early-morning festival, les Aubes musicales will attract music fans, people who love the bay, regulars of les Bains and anyone else keen to enjoy a moment of calm before beginning their day’s work. From 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., this timeless festival will whisk you away on a journey to the four corners of the globe. The full programme can be found on les Bains des Pâquis website
OSR festival on Geneva beach | 26 to 28 August
The OSR Festival will be held at the end of August on Geneva Beach for three events by the water’s edge. So grab your beach towel or deck chair, bring your picnic and admire the sunset over the Jura while discovering the syncopated beats of jazz, attending a cinema-concert with Chaplin or being carried away by the bewitching melodies of the balalaika.
To spend summer in shorts
Open-air games | throughout the summer
Young children will find plenty to keep them busy outdoors this summer in Geneva: in addition to the play areas and paddling pools in the four corners of the city, children will also have the opportunity to discover numerous games provided free of charge by the two itinerant games buses which will be visiting the parks and yards until September. A favourite activity last century, riding a pedal-powered pony has been given a new lease of life on Wednesdays in Parc Bertrand, Saturdays in the Bois-de-la-Bâtie and Sundays in Parc Mon-Repos.
The Mobithèque in the parks | 7 July to 1 August
With the arrival of the fine weather, the municipal libraries invite families to visit their fully equipped and connected mobithèque free of charge at the Botanical Conservatory and Gardens (7 to 18 July) then in le Bois de la Bâtie (21 July to 1 August). On the agenda: writing workshops, paper chases, readings, concerts, an introduction to urban dance, poetic and bucolic installations as well as literary, sporting and artistic circuits.
Summer fantasy at the Ariana | 5-9 July and 2-6 August
Making pottery, listening to tales, making kites, painting on glass or doing origami? For one week, the musée Ariana will be transformed into a workshop for all these creative explorations. From 5 to 9 July for 10-12 year-olds and from 2 to 6 August for 7-9 year-olds.
Barefoot in the moss | 2-13 August
The Chat De Bla and Matikalo troupes invite children to plunge into the undergrowth of the Parc La Grange to take the time to build, contemplate and dream. During an immersive 7-day workshop, they will create installations using materials found on-site, which will then serve as the scenery for the “Barefoot in the moss with my big ears” show.

Yoga classes on the grass | throughout the summer
Do you want to relax and recharge your batteries this summer? There are plenty of open-air yoga and meditation classes, open to donations, be it in Parc La Grange or at les Bains des Pâquis, as part of the Yoga on the grass programme.
Relaxing at la Canopée | 5 July to 12 September
A pavilion dedicated to relaxation and well-being, la Canopée will organise numerous free classes in a shaded green setting and a zen atmosphere. Yoga, pilates and relaxation for families are just some of the activities on offer.
Take a walk or a ride and fill up on energy | throughout the summer
Urban, rural, artistic, historical, bucolic or sporting... follow your feet, your pedals or your desires and discover our beautiful city and its environs through a series of themed walks.
To work up a sweat
Urban sports centre stage | 5 July to 29 August
For the very first time, la Pointe de la Jonction will metamorphose into a temporary space hosting a wide range of urban and emerging sports, such as street football, parkour, breakdance, slackline, urban tchouk and street workout which will be presented throughout the summer in the form of introductions, demonstrations and competitions, as part of the summer sports offer. Every week during the school holidays, skateboarding fans aged 8 and over will also be able take part in a skateboarding course organised by GVASK8.
An eight-hole golf course around the bay | 5 July to 29 August
Take a break by the lake with a free round of urban golf: a course approximately 4 km long offers you the chance to combine physical activity and relaxation – a fun way to rediscover the most attractive sites around the bay.
Open-air sports courses | throughout summer
Three programmes, three atmospheres, 37 disciplines and more than 400 classes: from slackline through abs-buttocks and pushchair gym to pilates, the City of Geneva’s free, open-air summer sports offer offers anyone the chance to try an activity they enjoy.
Open-air exercise installations | throughout the summer
To take full advantage of the sun while doing some exercise, why not make use of one of the numerous sports infrastructures or installations provided by the City, such as urban training, proxitraining, the urban fitness machines or the fitness trails.
Summer sports schools | throughout the summer
The summer sports schools offer children aged 4 -18 the chance to discover more than 50 original disciplines while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere during the summer holidays.
To play and celebrate
L'Union fait le jeu | 5 to 16 July and 16 to 27 August
This summer in the parks, a team of young girls under the supervision of social outreach workers will offer the public the chance to play games and participate in other activities. The times and venues can be found in the programme of L'Union fait le jeu 2021
National Day | 1 August
A special, festive and magical day awaits the public during the festivities organised on 1 August under the banner of “go with the flow”. Performances, circuits and guided visits, artistic walks and original concerts will spring up in different districts and venues around the city to celebrate the National Day.
Street parties in the districts | throughout the summers
Games, picnics, creative activities and workshops await the inhabitants of different districts. During these different "La Ville est à vous", events, the streets are transformed into pedestrian zones so that people can meet up in a convivial atmosphere. Next dates to save for the summer: Jonction (24 to 27 June), Petit-Saconnex (19 June to 18 July), Sécheron (26 June to 11 July), Saint-Jean (21 August to 12 September).

Introductory journey through the plant and animal kingdoms | 14 August
This one-day workshop in Parc La Grange invites the public to explore the realms of minerals, animals, plants and humans. It is a means of discovering the medicine wheel and getting in touch with the sky, the earth, the seasons, the elements, and all things living.
Le Grand Bazar de l'Evolution | throughout the summer
Taking over the entire Botanical Garden, this exhibition – with its innovative scenography – tells the long story of Earth, from the appearance of the first living organisms in water some 3.5 billion years ago to the current challenges of diminishing biodiversity. It is an original means of enjoying the fresh air, exploring the magnificent garden and revolutionising our vision of all living things around us and of which we are a part.
Enjoying nature in the city | throughout the summer
Observing a unique biodiversity in the garden-forest of wild and edible plants in Parc Mon Repos, watching the show put on by around 40 couples of swifts who have set up home in rue de Zürich in les Pâquis or enjoying the haven of urban nature that is Parc de Malagnou: there are countless ideas for enjoying nature in the city!
To make the most of elite sports
Several sports competitions will bring together the very best athletes in their respective disciplines this summer in Geneva: the top-class events include:
- the World Acro Gymnastics Championship (from 23 June to 4 July at les Vernets Sports Centre),
- the Swiss Diving Championship (10 and 11 July in les Vernets),
- the Starling Swiss Open Geneva, an international wheelchair tennis tournament with the world’s best players (13 to 17 July, Drizia-Miremont Tennis Club),
- the European Powerchair Football Tournament (23 to 27 August at la Queue d’Arve).
