Picking up your dog’s faeces

As a dog owner, you are required to pick up your pet’s faeces. To this end, the City of Geneva has installed a series of “caninettes”.

In the interests of cleanliness and public hygiene, all dog owners are required to pick up their pet’s faeces wherever they are.

Bag distributors available

Some 600 bag distributors, referred to as “caninettes” and intended for collecting dog dirt, are installed in the city’s canine hot spots. As far as possible, these “caninettes” are installed above bins in order to encourage users to throw the bags into the bins once they have been used.

Legal provisions

Not picking up your dog’s faeces constitutes an offence under article 21 of the law on dogs (LChiens). An owner who does not comply with this provision may therefore be given a fine.
