The Saint-Georges funeral home and crematorium is located in the cimetière de Saint-Georges, the largest in the City of Geneva. It has the following facilities:

  • 1 crematorium;
  • 4 chapels (one seating 336, one seating 167, one seating 96 and one seating 88);
  • 24 funerary rooms (including one for children);
  • 1 columbarium, a place where the ashes of cremated people can be left to rest;
  • gardens of remembrance.

The crematorium

The crematorium is located in the same building as the Saint-Georges funeral home. People who died in Geneva, in Switzerland or abroad can be cremated here. Based on the information provided by the undertakers, cemeteries and crematorium office, a schedule is determined to ensure that cremations are conducted in the correct order.

After cremation, and in accordance with the family’s wishes, the ashes can be placed in the following locations:

  • the Saint-Georges gardens of remembrance;
  • a cinerary vault;
  • the Saint-Georges columbarium;
  • at home;
  • abroad.

The chapels of the Saint-Georges funeral home

These are made available to the families, without any distinction of denomination or religion. An organist can be requested. You can also request that music be played using a wide range of multimedia.

All municipal chapels in the City of Geneva have access adapted to people with reduced mobility and are equipped with facilities for people with hearing impairments.

Flowers are accepted and recorded for each bereavement, presented to the public during the ceremonies and then given to the families.

The Saint-Georges columbarium and the gardens of remembrance

The Saint-Georges columbarium is maintained by the city’s municipal administration. Requiring payment of a tax, it enables families who so desire to leave cinerary urns in niches for a duration of 20 years, renewable at the end of each period up to a maximum duration of 99.

The ashes of people who have been cremated can also be scattered in the saint-Georges gardens of remembrance. This is a shared vault maintained and decorated by the undertakers, cemeteries and crematorium service.
