Discovery workshops and mobile workshops

In many of the schools in the City of Geneva, the discovery and mobile workshops offer pupils the chance to participate in sporting, cultural, creative or sustainable development activities free of charge during extracurricular periods (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.). Jointly organised with the GIAP and financed by the City of Geneva, these workshops are run by competent and recognised associations.

From the start of the 2020-21 academic year, children will be able to enrol in the workshop of their choice directly through the extracurricular teams.

Discovery workshops

The discovery workshops are open to pupils in years 2P to 8P in the numerous schools: There is a vast choice of activities! From skateboarding through hip-hop to theatre, each child should be able to find a sporting or cultural activity to suit their taste.
These workshops will be held from 21 September 2020 to 14 May 2021. They will be held in the schools over one semester at a rate of one workshop per week, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Mobile workshops

The mobile workshops will allow children in years 2P to 8P to discover a range of artistic, scientific or sustainable development activities during extracurricular periods. They will have the opportunity to observe nature in their school, discover sciences in an amusing format or enjoy an introduction to dance and music.
The mobile workshops will be held intermittently from September 2020 to May 2021. These workshops will be organised in the schools during the autumn and spring in series of 4 or 5 sessions, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

How does it work?

The process is identical for the discovery and mobile workshops.

Registration and costs

To participate in the workshops, the pupils must first be registered for the workshop of their choice with the Groupement intercommunal pour l’animation parascolaire (GIAP). The cost of the workshops is borne by the City of Geneva, so parents will only have to pay the extra-curricular fees. A rewarding activity for the children at no extra cost to their parents!

Organisation

The GIAP takes over supervision of the children when they leave class, offers them a snack and accompanies them to their workshop. At 6 p.m., the children are picked up by their parents in the extra-curricular room.
