Nurseries and early learning centres are collective structures requiring regular attendance, primarily intended for children whose parents exercise an activity (work, training or job search). These daycare structures help young children develop through educational activities.

Age of the children accepted

Children are welcome from the end of their mother’s maternity leave until they start school.

Attendance

Attendance rates vary from one early childcare structure to another. Children can be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis.

They must nevertheless be present at least 2 full days a week or 3 or 4 half-days a week. The days are organised as follows:

• 100%: all day;
• 75%: mornings with lunch and nap;
• 50%: mornings with lunch;
• 45%: afternoons without lunch.

Period of adaptation

Adaptation is a period of integration implemented in collaboration with the parents. It is a fundamental step which serves to reassure children by gradually ensuring they become accustomed to separation and creating a mutual relation of trust. It can last for between 1 and 3 weeks.
