A civil marriage celebrated in the City of Geneva is usually conducted in the former town hall of the Eaux-Vives district, also referred to as “Geneva city hall”, which is home to the Civil Registry Office. The fiancés can nevertheless request that the celebration be held in one of the two dedicated rooms made available by the City of Geneva.
Dedicated rooms
Since May 2012, it has been possible to celebrate a marriage in certain dedicated rooms:
The marriage may be conducted in a dedicated room upon agreement between the fiancés, the entity providing the room and the Civil Registry Office. A civil registry officer celebrates the marriage in the room chosen by the fiancés. The ceremony is organised in agreement with the civil registry officer (choice of music, speech by a guest, reading of a text, etc.).
These two dedicated rooms also provide the possibility of prolonging the celebration on site (hotel-restaurant of the Parc des Eaux-Vives) or nearby (Palais Eynard) in a stunning setting. They have been approved by the civil registry authorities as they satisfy the legal requirements and are adapted to the celebration of marriages.
