Recycling aluminium and tin plate

This page provides useful information concerning sorting and recycling aluminium and tin cans in Geneva. It informs you which types of waste can be recovered and where the collection points are located.

Aluminium and tin cans must be thrown away in the ad hoc skips located at the eco-points.

Map of the eco-points

A map of the eco-points is available on the Sorting and recycling household waste page. It is possible to click on each point to see the types of waste that are collected there (aluminium/tin plate, glass, PET, batteries, textiles or coffee capsules).

Opening times

  • Monday to Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.;
  • Sunday and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The following types of waste can be recovered

  • drinks cans, aluminium sheets;
  • yoghurt and dessert carton lids;
  • tubes of mayonnaise, concentrate, toothpaste, medicine, etc.;
  • trays which contained ramekins, tarts, pizzas, cakes, etc.;
  • empty aerosols (cosmetics, deodorisers, deodorants, etc.);
  • tin cans.

The following should be thrown out with the household waste

  • butter and cigarette packaging;
  • soup, sauce, purée packaging, etc.;
  • coffee, tea, rusk packaging, etc.

Good to know

Even if aluminium packaging contains food residue, it can still be recycled.

To check if waste is made from aluminium, place it near a magnet: it shouldn't stick, unlike tin plate. You can also consult the recycling logo present on the packaging.
