The arrival of autumn brings a number of major, multi-disciplinary festivals to the cultural scene in Geneva in addition to events focussing specifically on cinema and humour.

La Bâtie - Festival de Genève

31 August to 17 September 2023

La Bâtie-Festival de Genève is a multi-disciplinary festival (music, dance, theatre and performance) serving up a host of discoveries and creations. For over 40 years, it has brought together performing arts, choreographies, concerts and DJs, with a wide range of artists from Switzerland and abroad. The 2023 edition is spread across 57 different locations in Geneva and neighbouring France, with 70 cultural offerings combining music, dance, circus, performance and crazy nights.

Afrik Rire Geneva Festival

20 September to 1 October 2023

The aim of this comedy festival is to highlight the cultural diversity of Geneva through laughter. For its 6th edition, it adopts a revisited format with shows, offerings in English and brunches held at the International School of Geneva. Donel Jack'sman, Rey Mendes and Aisha Alfa are just some of the artists who will be performing.

Animatou

5 to 14 October 2023

The 18th edition of the Animatou International Animation Film Festival promises an exceptional cinematic experience, featuring a selection of over 100 animated shorts from the latest Swiss and international productions. The event is exploring new dimensions by collaborating with Festivals connexions to offer a virtual reality experience. Feature film screenings and a "Warm-up Animatou" evening on 27 September at the Animatou arcade in Les Grottes round off this year's rich programme.

3 to 12 November 2023

Switzerland's largest event dedicated to the immersive arts, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) is the oldest film festival in Geneva and one of the first in the world to have incorporated television into its programming. For ten days every year, it presents films, series, interactive installations and works of virtual reality to some 50,000 festival-goers, bringing together different genres and disciplines and acting as a forum for experimentation, meeting and celebration.

Les Créatives

15 to 26 November 2023

Every year in November, Les Créatives brings together thousands of people to enjoy a multi-disciplinary programme (music, theatre, readings, conversations, exhibitions and screenings) showcasing the artistic creations of women and gender minorities as well as intellectual feminist works. Fatoumata Diawara and Sevdaliza are just two of the guests at the 2023 edition.

FILMAR en América Latina

17 to 26 November 2023

Switzerland's leading festival devoted to Latin-American cinema and cultures, the festival presents militant and statement films, testimonies, retrospectives of cinema personalities and breakout works by emerging talents. Meetings and programming for budding film fans complete the programme, which reflects the wealth, diversity and memories of Latin America in seven different sections.
