Municipal Council of the City of Geneva

As the parliament of the municipality, the municipal council is responsible for approving the accounts and budgets of the City of Geneva. It also votes on loans to implement new projects, adopts regulations or tasks the administrative council with defining the major orientations of collective life.

As a deliberative authority, the Municipal Council is the local assembly which represents the voters of the City of Geneva.

Below the federal level (Federal Assembly) and the cantonal level (Grand Council), the Municipal Council is the local representative body.

The Municipal Council of the City of Geneva consists of 80 members, who are elected every five years.
