Good news for parents and children in the district of Saint-Jean! Since 18 July, a pilot experiment has been running in the City of Geneva. The “L’Ile aux trésors” nursery in the early childhood sector of Saint-Jean proposes 48 summer nursery places from Monday 18 July to Friday 12 August 2022. A number of activities adapted to the season are organised for the children in complete safety.
There are still some places available in August, by prior registration by phone on 022 338 28 80 or by e-mail to @email.
For the first time, a pilot experiment totalling 48 summer nursery places has been launched in the City of Geneva. To enable as many families as possible to take advantage of this service, one single week can be reserved per child. In total, almost 200 families will have the pleasure of using the service.
A secure service
From 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday 18 July to Friday 12 August inclusive, children can spend a week at the Ile aux trésors nursery in Saint-Jean (subject to prior reservation) to take part in a range of activities including walks, games, workshops and excursions to explore the district of Saint-Jean. The children are supervised by a multidisciplinary team recruited on a voluntary basis.
Particular attention is paid to the well-being of the children during this period of extreme heat. For example, the list of meals for the week is sent to the parents in advance.
Last remaining places available in August!
In light of the registrations, the current rate of occupancy is 96% across the 4 weeks. The two weeks in July are already full. There are nevertheless a few places left in August, primarily in the oldest age group. Priority is given to families in which both parents work. The children are supervised by a multidisciplinary team recruited on a voluntary basis.
Enhancing support for families
This pilot project is part of the reform of the governance of the early childhood service, which in particular aims to provide a more appropriate response to the needs of families and to ensure gender equality is a tangible reality. The summer nursery therefore helps relieve the burden on numerous parents who encounter difficulties in organising their time during this period, in particular if they are unable to call on support from their family.
In the long run, the aims is gradually to extend the “L’Ile aux trésors” pilot project to the other districts of the City in line with families’ needs.
