Day of Older Persons: answer the call for projects!

Following the success of 2021, the local social outreach centres of the Social Service have issued a new call for projects intended for associations and residents concerned by the Day of Older Persons. More than ever, it is essential to encourage gatherings and contacts in order to strengthen inter-generational relations and prevent the risks of isolation among senior citizens.

Appel projets seniors 2022

Every year on 1 October, the City of Geneva celebrates International Day of Older Persons by organising a series of local events in the different districts.

Until 13 May, residents and collectives (of senior citizens) are invited to answer the call for projects issued by the Social Service. The projects selected will benefit from financial support, assistance in kind or accompaniment, depending on the specific needs.

This call for projects is in line with the long life policy of the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity (DCSS), with the key aims of:

  • facilitating information and access to services for senior citizens;
  • developing ties of proximity and solidarity, in particular at neighbourhood level;
  • preventing and limiting the risks of isolation and exclusion among senior citizens.

How to participate?

Are you a member of an association of senior citizens? Are you a resident who takes an interest in the life of your neighbourhood? Are you concerned by issues relating to senior citizens? Then you have the chance to present a project that will help bring the Day of Older Persons to life on 1 October.

Any individuals or associations interested are invited to submit a project. You will find the procedure to follow, with all the useful documents and additional information, on the International Day of Older Persons page.

The projects submitted must, in particular, satisfy the following criteria:

  • stimulate encounters by, for and with senior citizens by encouraging local solidarity;
  • contribute to strengthening social cohesion through the involvement of each individual in neighbourhood life.

You are invited to submit your project until 13 May 2022 via the e-mail address @email.

The projects will be assessed by the local social outreach centres and approved by an ad hoc commission. The projects selected will benefit from financial support from the Social Service, assistance in kind or accompaniment.

The results will be communicated on 7 June 2022.
