On 16 October, the City of Geneva will organise the Promotions seniors 2021. The men and women who will reach retirement age this year or who took retirement in 2020 will be invited to attend.
The event will be held at the BFM (Bâtiment des Forces Motrices). It will be presided over by Executive Councillor, Christina Kitsos, who will welcome the distinguished guests Micheline Calmy-Rey and Henri Dès. The evening will also be an opportunity to provide those present, who are beginning a new phase of their life, with useful information.
During the course of 2020 and 2021, more than 3,500 people living in the City of Geneva reached the age of retirement. As the Promotions seniors event was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition will be open to people who retired in one or other of these two years.
Organised for the eighth time since 2013, the event illustrates the City of Geneva’s desire to highlight retirement by means of a convivial and symbolic moment. This year, women born in 1956 and 1957 and men born in 1955 and 1956 living within the municipality will be invited to attend the Promotions Seniors on 16 October 2021.
Micheline Calmy-Rey and Henri Dès – distinguished guests
Following a welcome aperitif, the evening will begin with a short official section attended by Christina Kitsos, Executive Councillor responsible for social cohesion and solidarity, and a representative of the State Council.
Two distinguished guests with very different profiles will then testify to their commitment: Micheline Calmy-Rey, the former President of the Confederation, and the singer-songwriter Henri Dès.
Information and commitments
The guests will have the opportunity to visit stands run by associations and institutions providing information about the activities and services available to them as well as the possibilities of working as volunteers. In particular, two associations – the Association 1h/1m2 and the Association des Aînées pour la protection du climat, or Climate Seniors Association – will be on hand to present their actions.
Open by invitation, the evening will be rounded off with a buffet dinner and music by La Fanfare du Loup Orchestra.
The Promotions Seniors is part of the old-age policy developed by the City of Geneva, which would like to take this opportunity to thank the newly retired citizens for their contribution to the city and express its recognition for their services rendered to the community.
