Alongside its sports classes, hammocks and bar, the Canopée (quai Gustave Ador) is hosting a fan zone from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 31 July during the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship.
All the matches are being shown free of charge on a large screen in a dedicated area next to the hammock zone.
Inflatable 4x4 football pitches, football bowling, 1x1 football arenas and penalty boxes are being set up for each broadcast. These fun installations are open to the public and are hosting demonstrations, including freestyle football.
“We also want this fan zone to promote women’s sports,” says Geneva Mayor Marie Barbey-Chappuis. “A number of sportswomen will be coming here to demonstrate their sport,” the magistrate adds.
Various events
Every broadcast of the Swiss women’s team matches is being accompanied by a variety of events, many of them featuring guest athletes.
The Servette-Chênois women’s team will be attending the zone on the day of the Portugal-Switzerland match (6 pm, Saturday 9 July) from 4 pm to play on the various pitches and take part in an autograph session from 5 pm.
The Sweden-Switzerland (6 pm, Wednesday 13 July) and Switzerland-Netherlands (6 pm, Sunday 17 July) matches will also be highlights at the fan zone, with a few surprises in store.
The following dates have already been scheduled for women’s sports demonstrations:
- Wednesday 13 July: petanque (mixed tournament) 3 - 6 pm;
- Saturday 16 July: women’s street rugby, 1 - 3 pm;
- Friday 22 and Saturday 23 July: demonstration and initiation (longboard), between 4 and 6 pm.
Other events will be added to the programme, depending on the performance of the Swiss team.
