Summer has arrived, bringing with it the opening of the Théâtre de l’Orangerie in the cool green setting of Parc La Grange. From 28 June to 6 September 2023, this new season serves up a wide-ranging cultural offer: plays, concerts, visual arts, shows for young audiences, workshops, meetings, refreshment stand and kitchen garden.

This 6th season includes eleven shows (with six original creations), seven installations and some twenty concerts, as well as workshops and events designed specifically for children, organised at the Théâtre de l’Orangerie (TO) and in its garden.

This will be Andrea Novicov’s final season as Director of the Théâtre de l’Orangerie: “Our final theatre season will be a little more outspoken, albeit full of love for a rural world that is collapsing and full of respect for anyone and everyone who suggests potential avenues and blazes trails where none yet exists. It will once again be overflowing with music, visual arts and of course the flowers and vegetables in our garden.”

Theatre

Finance, economics, the rural world in crisis, a post-apocalyptic world, exiles around the world and a tribute to the earth before it was over-exploited. The theatre season 2023 will be deliberately harder and more political than usual in order to raise awareness and encourage commitment. It will also support Swiss creation by inviting local troupes and by fostering numerous shows dreamed up within l’Orangerie.

Music

The TO stage will once again serve as a window to sounds from the four corners of the globeMyriad concerts, ranging from folk music to Japanese afrobeat, will set the tone for evenings that go beyond the usual boundaries and codes.

Shows for young audiences

Keen to convey and share ideas with the very youngest spectators, the TO will perform five shows designed for young children throughout the summer. Jumping pop theatre, tales, music, dance, circus...

Visual arts and workshops

Seven visual arts installations can be enjoyed throughout the summer: different formal offerings sounding a warning about the state of our planet, opening imaginations and taking a different look at the world of tomorrow. The workshops will offer people of all ages the chance to enjoy fun experimentations in the garden in order to understand the beauty and fragility of the environment.

Raising awareness of climate issues

From one summer to the next, Andrea Novicov has won his initial gamble: to work with the public and artists to examine the question of climate emergency. The place is open to a wide range of activities with a common objective – that of raising awareness, making people more attentive and calling them to action with regard to climate emergency. This vision is reflected not only in the plays but also in the applied art exhibitions, the workshops in the kitchen garden and on the refreshment stand menu. A project designed to affect every audience, making the TO a key venue of Geneva’s summer offering.
