Road works on Rue de Lausanne with the closure of one traffic lane

Roadworks will be carried out for three weeks to improve the fluidity of public transport and reduce road noise for local residents.

The City of Geneva will take advantage of the reduced traffic during the summer to carry out work on Rue de Lausanne. Work will begin on Monday 10 July 2023 and be completed by Sunday 30 July 2023, subject to favourable weather conditions. It will be carried out during the day on weekdays and on the two weekends of 22-23 July and 29-30 July.

The work will affect the section of Rue de Lausanne located between Rue des Alpes and Avenue de France on the lake side.

The work will involve installing a “diamond” edge in order to separate the tram area from the road.

Consisting of stones cut into an arrow-head shape, this edge will prevent private vehicles from crossing into the tram area. Many such vehicles have been seen driving illegally on the rails, thus slowing down public transport.

Similar edges have already been installed successfully, in particular on the section of Route de Meyrin located between Carrefour du Bouchet and Avenue Wendt. A new sound-absorbent surface will also be installed on the road to reduce the road noise that residents and traders have to put up with along this road.

Traffic closed towards Lausanne

The “sortie de ville” lane will be closed to traffic. Orange detour signs will guide motorists (see the attached detour map).

In the other direction, traffic will be maintained towards the station. In the quarter of les Pâquis, the streets perpendicular to Rue de Lausanne will become dead ends. Access for deliveries as well as to the hotel and les Cygnes car park will be maintained on the section of Rue de Lausanne located between Rue des Alpes and Rue De-Monthoux, except on the weekends of 22-23 July and 29-30 July, from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 7 a.m. on Monday morning. Access to les Cygnes car park from Rue De-Monthouxat will remain open at all times.

Trams maintained, detour for buses

Les Transports publics genevois will continue to operate trams on Rue de Lausanne. However, buses no.1 and 25 will follow a detour on Rue de Lausanne instead of crossing the quarter of les Pâquis. Stops will be moved or eliminated. More information is available at: www.tpg.ch

This detour makes it possible not only to carry out roadworks of the City of Geneva on Rue de Lausanne but also the work of the Services industriels de Genève on Rue De-Monthoux. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid this sector on the dates indicated and to use other routes. The City of Geneva would like to thank the residents and general public in advance for their patience while this work is being carried out.
