A theatre festival, everywhere for everyone

From 6 to 8 October 2023, the 11th edition of the Fête du Théâtre will take to the streets and institutions of Geneva, with more than 70 activities that are entirely free. Three days of celebration of the performing arts open to all.

Contemporary theatre, humour, more classical formats, street shows, circus, performances, improvisation… All forms of the performing arts will take centre stage during the course of this weekend, offering the public the chance to discover the wealth of theatrical offerings in Geneva, to take a look behind the scenes and to see the artists and the creation process at first hand.

Theatre in all its forms

One of the remits of the event is to make theatre accessible to all. Throughout the weekend, the institutions will offer free admission to the shows, subject to reservation. Themed circuits, such as the family circuit or the singular circuit, will guide you around the 77 proposals.

However, plays are also performed away from the usual stages: participate in a masterclass, watch a play in the garden of the Ethnography Museum, savour slices of theatre at the Museum of Art and History, attend a reading, enjoy a walk or visit a flash exhibition. The Marathon programme allows you to attend different plays one after another, by creating your personalised circuit.

The “Backstage” activities provide an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of theatrical creations and institutions. Attend rehearsals, a concert or readings and visit the areas that are generally closed to the public. One of the particularities this year is the series of unusual encounters with actors, focussing on cooking recipes. A celebrity will share a recipe while talking about their life, their gossip and their goulash. The 100% IMPRO section, organised in partnership with the lesArts troupe and the impro.ch school, includes numerous activities to discover this unforeseeable theatre discipline.
