From September 1944 onwards, Alice Rivaz, a key 20th-century author, began investigating women's occupations for the weekly Servir, exploring the often overlooked realities of housekeepers and homeworkers: their skills, their activities, their schedules and their incomes.
Jacob Lachat has compiled these texts in La machine à tricoter : écrits pour la presse, soon to be published by Héros-Limite, offering an in-depth reflection on women's work. In parallel, Valérie Cossy explores the position of women in society, highlighting the atypical career of Alice Rivaz.
Originally from Lausanne, Rivaz found her freedom in Geneva thanks to her job at the International Labour Office, which enabled her to break free from conventions and explore her art without hindrance. Her work remains a vibrant plea for the dignity and equality of women.
Valérie Cossy and Jacob Lachat explore these issues together in an interview conducted by Christian Ciocca, journalist and great connoisseur of Alice Rivaz's work.
