Who is this procedure intended for?
This procedure is intended for all parents of children enrolled at primary school.
What are the rates and conditions?
All children enrolled in primary school and registered for school canteens via the Groupement intercommunal pour l’animation parascolaire (GIAP) are supervised at lunch.
Meals are billed on a subscription basis by the school kitchens and canteens associations at the following rates:
- 1 meal per week: CHF 27 per month;
- 2 meals per week: CHF 54 per month;
- 3 meals per week: CHF 81 per month;
- 4 meals per week: CHF 108 per month.
This flat-rate price is based on an individual meal price of CHF 7.50. A further charge of max. CHF 5 shall be paid to cover extra-curricular supervision between 11.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. If genuinely necessary, financial assistance can be granted.
What to do?
The registration process takes place every year in May (one Wednesday and one Saturday). It is also possible to register and change subscriptions via the my.giap.ch portal.
Access to this portal requires having an e-procedures account with the State of Geneva. Parents who do not have the possibility of obtaining an e-procedure (international civil servants, people without a valid residence permit, people not subject to Geneva) can call 022 304 57 00.
The procedures implemented by the State of Geneva allow private citizens to conduct their administrative business remotely. This involves prior registration with verification of the identity of the future beneficiaries. In particular, people resident within the City of Geneva can carry out this verification at the civil registry office and, if necessary, benefit from assistance in creating their account.
In specific cases, and upon presentation of a supporting document, registrations are also accepted on the first day of school. If no supporting document can be produced, the registration is recorded but supervision of the child is postponed for two months.
At the end of the two registration periods mentioned above, the extra-curricular staff accepts new registrations subject to a waiting period if no supporting document can be produced.

Requests for financial assistance with regard to extracurricular supervision can be submitted to the GIAP and with regard to meals to the social action centre in your district.
