The City of Geneva once again pays homage to children who died before they could ever be brought into the world. The ritual of contemplation, involving the creation of a temporary work of art comprising 49 chimes, was designed by the artist, Carmen Perrin. This collective secular commemoration will be held on Saturday 14 May 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Saint-Georges Cemetery, in partnership with the Association Kaly.
Every year, in order to bring a degree of comfort to families that have lost a child before birth, Cemeteries and Crematorium Service organises a ceremony at the Saint-Georges Cemetery. This moment of contemplation traditionally takes place during the May full moon.
Organised in collaboration with the Association Kaly, this collective secular ceremony will take the form of a ritual created by the artist Carmen Perrin, who has designed a temporary suspended work of art comprising 49 chimes hanging from a cedar tree in the cemetery in which the parents are invited to leave a message.
For more detailed information concerning the ritual, please consult the page of the Ceremony dedicated to perinatal bereavement.
With this ceremony, the City of Geneva wishes to offer those families who were unable to hold a funeral for their unborn child a message of support along their difficult road of mourning.
