COVID-19: non-repayable aid for companies in the City of Geneva

To help local businesses cope with the difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Executive Council of the City of Geneva has taken the decision to grant the Fondetec (the municipal foundation for the development of employment and the economic fabric in the City of Geneva) a budgetary credit of 20 million Swiss francs. This measure means that non-repayable financial aid can be allocated to those SMEs most severely affected by the health crisis.

This subsidy is granted independent of the usual financial support afforded the Fondetec by the City of Geneva. It is subsidiary to federal and cantonal aid and is limited to a maximum of CHF 75,000 per company in order to finance the fixed charges not covered by turnover or other aid.

According to the decision approved by the Executive Council, the award criteria will include the following:

  • Be domiciled in the City of Geneva and be registered with the business tax authorities;
  • Comply with the collective labour agreement and the equality legislation;
  • Not be in a situation of over-indebtedness as at 1 January 2020;
  • Have recorded a turnover of less than CHF 2 million in 2019;
  • Demonstrate a fall in turnover of at least 30% in 2020 linked to the pandemic.

The detailed list of conditions and all necessary information concerning this measure can be found on the dedicated website. Requests for funds can only be submitted via this platform. A chat system has been incorporated in order to provide companies wishing to submit a request with the best possible accompaniment.
