In amongst live bands, electro, disco and karaoke, Geneva will be partying by the lake to see the New Year in! Several stages, bars, a staged programme and the traditional firework display await the public to celebrate New Year's Eve on the quay and the Mont Blanc Rotunda.
There’ll be something to suit every taste, including streetwise rap and techno music, funky disco and sing-along karaoke.
After two years marked by Covid-related restrictions, the festival on 31 December organised by the City of Geneva is pulling out all the stops to see the New Year in.
“We’re delighted to be able to hold a free public festival,” says Geneva’s mayor, Marie Barbey-Chappuis. “There’s a real need for enjoyment to take people’s minds off the worrying socio-economic context. The New Year’s programme, featuring a host of local artists, has been designed with this in mind.”
Between 8 pm and 3 am, four stages will be on hand to welcome the public.
Mont-Blanc stage: sound and images
Dedicated to electro/pop music, this stage will be located on the Mont Blanc rotunda. Mapping will feature all around the DJs, created by women from Geneva. It’s the biggest of the four stages. Not to be missed: the Genevan collective Wholly DJs, who set the Place Neuve on fire at the last Fête de la Musique.
Mouettes stage: spotlight on the 1980s
A creative fairytale world’s being created in this tent located on the lower quay of the Quai du Mont-Blanc. Festival-goers will encounter a quirky universe with a kitsch, twisted aesthetic and music from the 80s, plus disco.
Pâquis stage: live music
This stage will be hosting local bands organised by young people. Not to be missed: the Geneva rapper Chilla, who made a big impression at the Paléo this summer.
Karaoke tent: now sing!
Next to one of the main bars, a dome will welcome diehard karaoke fans with a giant screen and two MCs.
Countdown and fireworks
As usual, a fireworks display organised by the Fairmont Hotel will take place at midnight following the countdown by the Mayor of Geneva on the Mont-Blanc stage.
Bars and food trucks
Three bars by the lake will help keep everyone’s thirst at bay, courtesy of two of Geneva’s cultural associations:
- Kalvingrad,
- Bongo Joe.
As for food, 12 food trucks will be offering savoury as well as sweet treats throughout the evening.
A Vitale Vert event
This event is powered by Vitale Vert, electricity that’s 100% green, 100% local and certified by the most exacting energy label in Europe.
